These Christmas settings come from volume VI of Praetorius s Musae Sionae, published in Wolfenbüttel in 1609. This particular volume of Praetorius mammoth collection contains many Christmas pieces, some in several different versions. In the present selection we have included two versions of a few of the hymns: an attractive feature of some of these is a second part that often goes above the melody.
In this edition the original note values have been halved throughout. The occasional editorial accidental appears above the stave in the usual way.
